Ridgecrest is located in the Mojave Desert of California, in the Indian Wells Valley in northeastern Kern County, California. It is adjacent to the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. Ridgecrest is surrounded by four mountain ranges and is approximately 80 miles (130 km) from the Lancaster/Palmdale area and approximately 115 miles (185 km) from both Bakersfield and San Bernardino. Balsam Street includes boutique shops, salons, and eatery's. The Maturango Museum includes a desert garden, an art gallery and a children's discovery area with hands-on displays. Take a Coso Rock Art National Historic Landmark tour which departs from the Maturango Museum. It is a guided 10 hour tour of the site of an extensive display of prehistoric rock art.
